Chronic Illness & Medical Trauma

We offer in person and online face to face sessions for chronic illnesses and medical trauma. Getting to session should not be a barrier to your treatment.  When recovering from medical trauma and/or living with chronic illness, finding a provider who understands both PTSD and the complexities of chronic physical conditions is essential. With extensive clinical and personal experience, I look forward to supporting you, read more about me below.

Medical Trauma

Medical Trauma Therapy utilizes specialized modalities to help process the psychological trauma of a scary diagnosis, painful medical procedures, medical negligence, or dismissive clinical environments.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful beliefs caused by the trauma. Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body oriented therapy that helps release the physical tension and stress trapped in the body after invasive medical interventions, helping you feel safe in your physical skin again.

Narrative Therapy helps you re-contextualize your medical history and allows you to view yourself not just as a passive victim of a medical crisis, but as an activ agent who survived it.

Chronic Illness

Instead of 'fixing" the physical sickness, mental health therapy aims to reduce symptom flare-ups caused by stress, process the grief of a changing body, and maximize your daily quality of life.

Modalities will include ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Thearpy) and Medical Trauma Therapy.

Client's Family Member

"Dr. Story at Oceanside Therapy and

Assessments was a total lifesaver for our family.

The first semester of college was overwhelming for a family member and we didn't know where to turn. Dr. Story stepped in, really listened, and gave us the clarity we desperately needed.

Getting an accurate diagnosis and her practical advice on what to do next turned a difficult situation into personal development and academic success that was unimaginable. It allowed them to find the right ongoing therapy and get back on track. We are so incredibly grateful for her help!"
